A GoHighLevel builder asked r/gohighlevel what to charge for one client's system. The client matches homeowners with local tradespeople. The plan covered WhatsApp follow-up, an AI that collects job details and hands off to a person, trade matching by distance, quote visits booked between two parties, and alerts when an automation fails. Commenters answered with build prices from $699 to $5,000, and two of them added a monthly retainer of $200 to $500. One explained the spread: "the happy path is maybe 30% of the actual work."
Same scope, and the highest answer was roughly seven times the lowest. That is why "how much does a GoHighLevel expert cost" has no single answer. The price follows scope, testing and the edge cases someone has to find.
Upwork's GoHighLevel page, checked October 14, 2026, lists $300 to $1,200 for an account setup or cleanup, $1,000 to $4,000 for a funnel and automation build, and $3,000 to $10,000 for an agency system with snapshots. By the hour, Upwork's rate guide puts intermediate freelancers at $25 to $60 and advanced ones at $60 to $120 or more, across all categories. HighLevel's own subscription and usage charges come on top.
What do GoHighLevel projects cost?
| Project type | Typical range | What it usually includes |
|---|---|---|
| Account setup or cleanup | $300 to $1,200 | Basic settings, pipeline stages, a calendar, a form or survey |
| Funnel and automation build | $1,000 to $4,000 | Funnel pages, a lead form, an email and SMS nurture workflow |
| Integration-heavy build | $1,500 to $6,000 | Connections to tools such as Stripe, Twilio, Mailgun or Zapier, a data flow test, handoff notes |
| Agency system or onboarding build | $3,000 to $10,000 | A snapshot for client replication, onboarding automation, documentation |
| Ongoing optimization and support | $800 to $3,000 | Workflow audits, fixes, campaign updates, reporting |

These are Upwork's October 2026 market ranges, not quotes. Upwork also says a typical GoHighLevel project takes one to eight weeks.
What do GoHighLevel experts charge per hour?
Upwork's rate guide, published May 12, 2026, lists three bands: beginner at $10 to $25, intermediate at $25 to $60, and advanced or expert at $60 to $120 or more. Those bands cover every category on the platform, not only GoHighLevel.
When I opened Upwork's GoHighLevel page on October 14, 2026, its four featured profiles listed $7, $10, $12 and $20 an hour. That is a snapshot of one page on one day, not a market rate. The guide also says highly specialized development, AI and consulting roles often reach $75 to $150 or more, which is the right reference if the job needs a GoHighLevel developer.
The hourly number matters less than the hours. A tested workflow takes longer to build than an untested one, and that time shows up in the quote. My guide to hiring a GoHighLevel freelancer explains how to compare quotes on Upwork and Fiverr.
Does the number of workflows change the price?
Yes, and it is the easiest number to ask for. An HVAC company in California came to me with two needs: answer its calls and book the jobs, then build a CRM that was not empty. The first became a phone receptionist that books service requests into a dispatch board. The second became a seven-stage pipeline with 10 custom fields, 18 tags and 2 calendars.
Then came 25 logic workflows, with a silence counter, a call cadence of up to six attempts, an estimate follow-up with a sequence lock field, and a three-month no-show recovery. In the end 31 workflows were live, alongside 39 emails. A quote written for "answer the calls" alone would not have covered the rest. My own niche packs have about 69 workflows per account.
Ask any quote to list the workflows it covers. "A full automation system" is not a scope.
Does testing change the price?
Yes. Testing is work, and a quote can quietly leave it out. On my niche demo accounts, version 1 passed 104 of 104 journeys (about 3,300 executed steps).
Version 2 passed 268 journeys across eight accounts. Each journey is a test contact walking one path.
Ask whether the quote includes execution logs for a test contact. My method is in how I test GoHighLevel workflows.
Does A2P registration change the price?
It can, through time. The HVAC company's registration was rejected, so its texting waited and email went first. A rejection means a fix and a resubmission, and the schedule moves with it.
Ask whether the quote covers a resubmission, and what documents you must supply. I cover the paperwork in GoHighLevel A2P registration.
Does an inherited or migrated account change the price?
It does, because someone has to find out what exists first. For a mortgage brokerage in Florida, I counted 281 workflows in 27 folders, with only 95 active. I cloned the previous agency's 190 workflows into an archive folder and checked the result: 1,559 actions with zero differences and 257 of 257 triggers.
I also imported 1,583 contacts with zero errors. Migration work is measurable, so ask for counts before and after.
Do integrations and AI agents change the price?
Yes, and Upwork's own table shows it: integration-heavy builds run $1,500 to $6,000, well above a standard funnel. A bridge I built between a mortgage loan origination system (LOS) and GoHighLevel replaced six Zaps. Its first loan-details run wrote 808 fields on 402 contacts.
Custom code, monitoring and error handling take longer than point-and-click workflows. That is the gap between a builder and a developer.
Does a second language or the message copy change the price?
Yes. Every message has to be written, and in a bilingual account every workflow needs a second branch. My niche builds have English and Spanish branches. The copy for each niche runs to 48 emails and 44 SMS keys, and a script checks it for errors.
If a quote says "email and SMS sequences" with no count, ask how many messages, in how many languages, and who writes them.
How do you compare two quotes?
Put the same six lines next to each other. A quote that cannot fill them in is not finished.
- The list of workflows, pipelines and calendars it covers.
- The test evidence you will receive, such as logs of a test contact.
- The texting registration work and the documents you must supply.
- The handoff: a map of the account and who owns it.
- The fix window after launch.
- The payment schedule, with milestones.
What costs show up after the quote?
- HighLevel itself. HighLevel's pricing page lists Starter at $97 a month for 3 sub-accounts, Unlimited at $297 with unlimited sub-accounts and basic API access, and Agency Pro at $497 with SaaS mode and advanced API access. Email, SMS, calling and AI have usage-based charges.
- Premium workflow actions. HighLevel's pricing guide lists $0.01 per execution, with Workflow Pro bundles at $10, $25 and $50 a month. In my builds, premium actions such as a custom webhook skipped silently when the agency wallet was empty.
- Your own time. Texting registration needs your legal documents and your approvals.
- Fixes after launch. Ask for a named fix window in writing.

When is doing it yourself fine?
If you run one location with one pipeline and a handful of workflows, you can start on your own. Niche Automation Packs cost $22 each, for example the HVAC pack. Each is a GoHighLevel snapshot with the workflows already built. You or your agency installs it.
I built and tested eight niche versions, and 268 test journeys passed across those demo accounts. They cover appointment confirmations, reminders, no-show follow-up, missed calls and pipeline moves. Hire an expert for texting registration and anything custom. My checklist for hiring a GoHighLevel expert shows how to vet one.
FAQ
How much does a GoHighLevel developer cost?
Upwork lists integration-heavy GoHighLevel builds at $1,500 to $6,000 per project. Its rate guide says specialized development roles often reach $75 to $150 or more per hour. See GoHighLevel developer for when you need code at all.
Is a fixed price cheaper than hourly?
For a defined build, fixed scope with milestones is easier to control. Hourly suits audits and cleanups where nobody knows what is inside yet. Whichever you pick, cap the hours or the milestones in writing.
Should I pay upfront?
Pay by milestone, not in full upfront. Upwork recommends funded milestones for fixed-price work, so money is held and released as you approve each stage.
Why do quotes for the same job differ so much?
In the Reddit thread above, one scope drew answers from $699 to $5,000. Usually the gap is edge cases, testing and who handles texting registration. Ask every bidder to list the workflows, the test evidence and the A2P work they include.
What does ongoing support cost?
Upwork lists ongoing optimization and support at $800 to $3,000 per project. Ask what is included: audits, fixes, monitoring and reports are different jobs.
