Custom code for GoHighLevel

A GoHighLevel Developer for Integrations, Apps and Custom Code

I'm Carlos Familia, a GoHighLevel developer for the jobs workflows can't do alone: connecting another system's API, building a marketplace app, adding a custom widget to the CRM or running an n8n bridge between two systems. You work with me directly, and I build the alert that tells you when a connection stops along with the connection itself. Book a time in the calendar below and bring a list of the systems that hold your data.

  • About 10 marketplace apps: webhooks, custom pages, custom workflow actions
  • Loan system bridge wrote 808 fields on 402 contacts, first run
  • Rate-limit fix: 118 of 118 reads, run time 152 to 29 seconds
  • Error alerts on 33 of 33 active n8n workflows

Do you need a GoHighLevel developer or a workflow builder?

You need a developer when the job needs code: data that lives in another system, a screen GoHighLevel doesn't have, or one tool that serves many sub-accounts. If the job is pipelines, forms, calendars and texting, a builder is enough, and my GoHighLevel expert page fits you better.

A quick test: if you can write the job as 'when X happens to a contact, do Y to that contact', workflows cover it. If the sentence needs a second system or many accounts, it's developer work. GoHighLevel developers and workflow builders overlap, and I walk through every branch in do you need a developer or a workflow builder.

Which systems have I connected to GoHighLevel?

Every GoHighLevel integration below is a real build, described by what it does. As an API integration expert, I start each one with the same question: which system owns each field? Get that wrong and the two systems keep overwriting each other.

Automation integration services are only as good as the alert that fires when data stops moving. On the loan system bridge, Zap filters had dropped 9 records in 7 days and Zapier counted each one as a success. The replacement runs a reconciler every 5 minutes and alerts when no loan ID lands within 15 minutes. The numbers are in my Zapier to n8n migration case.

  • A mortgage loan system: status, loan details and notes both ways, moved from six Zaps to n8n
  • Square Appointments: real availability and bookings from a chat bot and a phone agent
  • RingCentral: click to dial from GoHighLevel call buttons, plus a call log on the contact
  • A med spa's booking software: two-way calendar sync, 2 seconds one way and 12 the other
  • Salesforce: 3,380 of 3,401 contacts and 128 loans moved in as opportunities
  • A phone system: calls and texts summed up as one AI note per contact each night
  • Indeed: applicant emails parsed into a hiring pipeline
  • Google Ads: call conversions from a number pool, imported as click conversions

Can you build a marketplace app or a custom page inside GHL?

Yes. I've registered about 10 marketplace apps: apps that push account events like new DMs to n8n, custom pages inside GoHighLevel with single sign-on, and custom workflow actions with their own branches. One voice AI app runs in many sub-accounts at once, so every table filters by the location inside the signed token.

Isolation is where these apps fail. In that voice app, a query once picked the first location row instead of the signed-in one, so one sub-account could see another's data. It took five fixes, and now an anonymous query returns nothing. That is the first case I test on any app.

Apps have their own rules. A draft app fires no webhooks, white-label apps reject redirect URLs containing 'ghl' or 'highlevel', and a change to a custom action needs a major version before installed accounts see it. I learned the last one on a live custom action for a mortgage brokerage.

What can a custom widget add to the GoHighLevel screen?

When the team needs something GoHighLevel's screens don't show, I build it as a custom JavaScript widget. For a portable storage company in Alabama, that was a stage stepper banner, a deal card with send-proposal buttons, SMS templates and two dashboards, working on two locations. For a salon agency, one widget shows 12 KPIs from a single cached function with a location check.

Widgets are code that lives on someone else's platform, so they need upkeep. When a GoHighLevel markup change made an agency's custom CSS skin vanish, 86 selectors matched zero elements. I count matches before assuming anything was deleted, and we agree where the widget code is hosted before I write it.

How do you keep n8n bridges from failing in silence?

Most of my integrations run through n8n, because it lets me wrap each call in retries, logs and alerts. On a mortgage brokerage's account, all 33 active workflows report to one error catcher, and an hourly watchdog flags any schedule that didn't run. That side of my work has its own n8n consultant page.

Rate limits fail quietly too. A daily call queue I built scans 1,054 open opportunities, and its first live run lost 28 contact reads and 16 tags to rate-limit errors without failing. After retries with backoff and a concurrency of 4, it read 118 of 118 and tagged 43 of 43, and the run dropped from 152 to 29 seconds.

Before you hire a GHL developer, ask how they choose a connection and how they test it. I compare webhook steps, private tokens and marketplace webhooks in which n8n GoHighLevel integration fits, and list the quiet ways Zapier drops data in GoHighLevel Zapier integration failures.

From first call to handoff

  1. Map who owns each field: We list every system involved and pick the source of truth for each field. That map prevents loops and overwrites later.
  2. Scoped access: You add me as a user and, where code needs it, create a private integration token limited to the scopes the job needs. I test that exact token from the exact tool that will run it.
  3. Dry run and kill switch: I build with a dry-run mode, a kill switch and a test mode that refuses to write when it can't confirm the contact is a test contact.
  4. Live proof in both systems: Go-live is one real event through the whole chain, checked in the logs of both systems. A green check in one of them is not proof.
  5. Monitoring you can read: You get the field map, a list of every credential in use and alerts in Slack or by text when something stops, so a failure reaches a person instead of a log.

Work I have shipped

A loan system bridge moved off Zapier

A Florida mortgage brokerage ran its loan system bridge on six Zaps, and filters dropped 9 records in 7 days with no alert. I moved the logic to n8n with a stale-event guard and a reconciler. The first loan details sync wrote 808 fields on 402 contacts. Read how it was built

Click to dial through RingCentral

A mortgage loan officer in California called from RingCentral, and none of his calls reached GoHighLevel. I built a call log first, then click to dial from GoHighLevel's call buttons on RingCentral's official API, with n8n in the middle and custom JS on the buttons. Read how it was built

A marketplace app that sorts DMs

An online English academy's GoHighLevel bot answered every DM, emojis included. I built a small marketplace app that sends each incoming DM to n8n, where a local AI model sorts it into one of 8 categories and turns the bot on or off for that contact. Read how it was built

One voice app, many sub-accounts

A voice AI app that agencies install serves businesses in legal intake, restoration and dental. It runs as a custom page with single sign-on, and row-level security keeps each sub-account to its own calls. Read how it was built

Questions before you hire

What should I have ready when I hire a GoHighLevel developer?

A list of every system that holds your data, who owns each account, and one real example of the event you want handled, like a new loan or a missed call. Admin access to each system speeds things up. If a system has no API for what you need, say so early, because that changes the plan.

Is a Go High Level developer different from a GHL expert?

Often it's one person doing two kinds of work. Expert work happens inside GoHighLevel: pipelines, workflows and calendars. Developer work sits outside or on top of it: APIs, apps, widgets and servers. I do both, and most projects mix them, so the scope should say which parts are code and where that code is hosted.

Do you build in Zapier or n8n?

Mostly n8n, because I can host it, add retries and read every execution. Zapier is fine for simple one-way jobs, but a filtered Zap counts the dropped record as a finished run. That is how a brokerage lost 9 records in a week without an alert. Long chains of Zaps are usually worth moving.

Can you work with self-hosted servers?

Yes. I run n8n, a self-hosted Supabase with 11 containers and other bridges on my own server, so Docker, reverse proxies and server limits are routine work for me. I've also built inside a client's own n8n cloud. If data residency matters, say so at the start: one contract required EU data residency, and that decides where everything runs.

How do you keep an integration working after launch?

I build an alert path into each one: an error catcher on every workflow, a watchdog for schedules that didn't run and checks on failed messages. One watchdog caught a server CPU throttling outage by itself. Platforms change too, so I snapshot GoHighLevel's workflow builder schema every hour and get a diff when something moves.

What about Twilio, phone numbers and texting?

Most accounts should stay on GoHighLevel's built-in phone system. When a business already owns its numbers in Twilio, I connect them and put every number in E.164 format first. For a home services company's texting automation, fixing bare '+1' numbers and honoring STOP took delivery from 0.7% to 82.1% in a two-hour sample. Details in connect Twilio to GoHighLevel.
