n8n Consultant Who Builds, Tests and Watches Your Workflows
I'm Carlos Familia, an n8n consultant for US service businesses and the agencies that serve them. I build new workflows and AI agents, repair the ones that fail quietly, and put alerts on everything before I hand it over. Start by booking a call on the calendar below, and bring the workflow you can least afford to lose.
- You work with me directly, from first call to last fix
- Self-hosted n8n on a VPS, or your own n8n Cloud account
- AI agents plus GoHighLevel, Retell, Twilio and Square bridges
- Error alerts on every active workflow before handover
What does an n8n consultant actually take off your plate?
Job posts call it different things: n8n expert, n8n specialist, n8n automation expert. Underneath the title, the work is one of three jobs: build something new, repair something that fails, or make sure someone hears about it when it fails. I take all three, and the first call settles which one you have.
Building starts from a requirement and a test plan, and ends with a workflow that passes the plan. Reviewing starts with read access, an inventory and a list of risks ranked by what each would cost you. Watching means a failed step reaches a person who answers it. Here is what an n8n consultant does in the first two weeks on an account someone else built.
Whichever job it is, you should end up holding the same things: workflows in your own instance, a short document per workflow, alerts wired to a person, and test runs you can repeat. If you are comparing builders, these n8n developer interview questions show what good and bad answers sound like.
Do you need an n8n agency, or one specialist?
I'm one specialist, not a team. Blue Mirai Systems LLC is a Wyoming company, I work from the Dominican Republic, and you work with me directly: the person on the call builds the workflow, tests it and reads the alert when it fires. There is no account manager in between and no handoff to someone junior.
An n8n agency is the better buy when you need several builds moving at once, someone on call overnight, or a vendor review that expects a team. One specialist fits when the work crosses several systems and you want the designer and the debugger to be the same person. I wrote up both sides in n8n automation agency vs freelancer.
The honest risk with one person is that only one person understands the system. My answer is ownership: the instance, the accounts and the credentials stay in your name, and every workflow is documented well enough for another builder to take it over.
Which n8n builds do I take on?
Most of my n8n work sits between a CRM and something the CRM cannot do alone: a phone line, a booking system, a loan system or an AI model. A mistake there reaches a real customer as a text, a call or a booking, so each build ships with an off switch and a test mode that refuses to run when it cannot tell a test contact from a real one.
If GoHighLevel is your CRM, start with the three ways to connect GoHighLevel and n8n. Work inside GoHighLevel itself, such as custom code and marketplace apps, is on the GoHighLevel developer page. For bots, this decision tree for n8n AI agent work shows which skills to hire for. These are builds I have shipped for real businesses:
- AI chat agents: a router that sends each message to a booking, support or info agent
- Voice AI: lead dialers, Retell and ElevenLabs tool bridges, call results written to the CRM
- GoHighLevel connections: workflow webhooks, private tokens, marketplace app webhooks
- System sync: a loan origination system, Square appointments, a read-only ERP layer
- Texting: Twilio with a kill switch and a dry run, iMessage-first with SMS fallback
- Data pipelines: scraping, enrichment on a budget, Airtable and Supabase
- Zapier replacements and nightly AI summaries of phone activity
Why do n8n workflows fail without anyone noticing?
The failures that cost money are rarely red. At a mortgage brokerage in Florida, a daily call-queue job scans 1,054 open opportunities. Its first live run lost 28 contact reads and 16 tags to rate limits without raising an error. With retries, backoff and a concurrency of 4, it read 118 of 118 and tagged 43 of 43, and run time fell from 152 seconds to 29.
Other quiet failures I have had to find: an error workflow that was never published, so it never ran. A test on a seconds schedule that flooded the execution history down to about two days. A patch made from the saved draft instead of the running version, which took a chat router down for 15 minutes. A connection rebuild that wiped every AI tool link while runs still showed success.
So every build I hand over has an error workflow on each active workflow and a watchdog for schedules that stop running. If yours is misbehaving today, match the symptom in n8n workflow not working: symptoms and fixes before you pay anyone.
Should n8n run on n8n Cloud or on your own server?
Both work, and I have built on each. My own n8n is self-hosted on a VPS beside Supabase, a WhatsApp gateway and several small bridges, all behind Traefik. A real estate investor's four workflows run in their own n8n Cloud account. Cloud hands server upkeep to n8n. Self-hosting gives you control over where the data lives, and someone has to own updates, backups and capacity.
Self-hosting has its own failure list. My VPS provider throttled the server at 87 to 90% CPU steal, and database healthchecks every 5 seconds were a large share of that load. n8n in Docker reaches a service on the host at 172.17.0.1, not 127.0.0.1. One contract required EU data residency while the server sat in the US, which belongs in the scope, not after launch.
Cloud has quirks too: activating workflows through n8n Cloud's public API did not register their triggers. Whichever you choose, the account or the server stays yours. Before you hire anyone to host n8n for you, score them with this 24-point n8n self-hosting checklist.
From first call to handoff
- Book a call: Pick a time on the calendar below. Bring the job you want automated, or the workflow that would hurt most if it stopped for a day.
- Read access first: For existing work I ask for read access to workflows and executions plus a list of credential names, never the secrets. New builds start from a sample of real records.
- Written scope: You get a scope that names each workflow, what it writes and where, how it will be tested, and who receives the alerts.
- Build and test: I build in your instance with marked test contacts, a dry-run mode and a kill switch, so nothing reaches a real lead until the tests pass.
- Handover with alerts: Alerts go live on every active workflow, then you get the documents and a walkthrough. Ongoing maintenance is a separate, optional agreement.
Work I have shipped
Quiet failures at a mortgage brokerage
Lead alerts at a brokerage in Florida logged "accepted" for days after the account had lost access to WhatsApp. I put an n8n error catcher on all 33 active workflows, added an hourly watchdog and moved the alert to SMS. The first real lead after the switch reached 4 staff phones. Read how it was built
AI calls to form leads at a med spa
A med spa in Pennsylvania got 58 Facebook form leads with a phone number in 14 days and called none of them. I built a poller with atomic claims, a rehearsal mode and calling windows in each lead's time zone, dialing about 45 seconds after a lead arrives. When the voice account ran out of credit, 79 dials failed while runs said success, and the watchdog now catches that. Read how it was built
A Zapier bridge moved to n8n
A brokerage's link to its loan system ran in six Zaps, and filters dropped 9 records in 7 days while Zapier counted them as success. The n8n version keeps a ledger, checks it every 5 minutes and alerts when no loan ID lands within 15 minutes. Its first loan-details run wrote 808 fields on 402 contacts. Read how it was built
A DM booking bot that books for real
A med spa's n8n router sends each Instagram, Facebook or text message to a booking, support or info agent. Overlapping polls double-replied until each message was claimed in a database, and a reschedule now counts only when the tool call succeeds. Panel QA passed 102 of 105 tests. Read how it was built
Questions before you hire
How much does an n8n consultant cost?
I don't publish rates, because the price follows the scope: how many workflows, which systems, and how much testing a failure would justify. You get a number after a call, once I have seen the workflows or the requirement and the scope is written down. For market hourly rates, project ranges and hosting costs from published sources, read what an n8n developer costs.
Do you build n8n workflows for agencies?
Yes. Part of my n8n work comes through agencies: Slack supervision and a QA digest for an agency running nine client chat bots, plus voice and texting builds that agencies delivered to their own clients. I can work under your agency's name, and the documents are written so your team can support the client after handover.
Can you fix n8n workflows someone else built?
Yes, and I start with read access, not edits. A rescue begins with an inventory and a ranked risk list. One home services company's n8n texting system had failed 2,238 sends over 127 days, most of them to a bare "+1" with no number behind it. Fixes start after we agree on the order.
How do you keep an n8n AI agent from making things up?
By taking decisions away from the model. Tools return a table of dates and weekdays, so the bot never works out the date on its own. A booking counts only when the tool call succeeds. A prompt rule alone did not stop one bot from asking for a time in every reply, but a limit enforced in code did.
What happens after launch?
The alerts keep running whether or not you hire me afterward, and they can go to a person on your side as well as to me. Ongoing maintenance for updates, monitoring and small changes is a separate agreement. To compare offers from anyone, read what n8n maintenance should cover before you sign a retainer.
